Kitchens Planned Around the People Using Them

Seahaveninc is a kitchen remodeling contractor in Scottsdale. We spend most of our time in the larger homes of north Scottsdale, in communities like DC Ranch, Desert Mountain, Troon and McDowell Mountain Ranch, where kitchens are big and still somehow crowded. The pattern repeats from house to house. The room was designed to look good from the family room, with a statement range and a long island, but nobody worked out where a second or third person would stand while dinner was being made.

That is the problem we like to solve. Before we draw anything, we ask who cooks, how often, and what a busy evening looks like. A couple who bake together on weekends needs something different from a family where one person runs the stove while teenagers raid the refrigerator and a grandparent washes up. We map those habits onto the room and then decide what has to move.

How We Approach a Project

We start with the layout, because it is the part that is hardest to fix later. Paint, hardware and even counters can be changed in a weekend or a week. A sink in the wrong place stays there for twenty years. So we settle the zones first: where prep happens, where the heat is, where cleanup lives and where guests can stand without being in the way.

We are straightforward about cost. Moving plumbing across a slab floor, rerouting a gas line or taking out a load-bearing wall with an engineer’s beam design all add real money. When a smaller change such as an island prep sink gets you most of the benefit, we will tell you that plainly.

We also plan for Scottsdale’s conditions. Hard water shapes our fixture and filtration advice. Heat and dust shape how we size and duct the hood. HOA design review in the master-planned communities shapes the schedule, and permits and inspections go through the City of Scottsdale.
