National Safe Place Week

National Safe Place is pleased to announce March 17-23, 2013 as National Safe Place Week. The week serves to increase awareness about the importance of youth safety and the dangers young people face when they feel they have nowhere to go or are in crisis situations. It also highlights the Safe Place program, which brings together businesses and volunteers to provide help and safety for youth facing abuse, neglect, bullying or serious family problems.

Youth and Family Services Network/
National Safe Place
New Orleans Conference

September 25-28, 2012

Sea Haven proudly accepted the ‘Model Program of the Year’ award for the Sea Haven’s Transitional Living Program. Sea Haven also received the ‘Most Outstanding Safe Site’ award for Chris’ Pizza, who has been a longtime supporter of the Sea Haven programs.

Sea Haven staff attended the week conference and interacted with professionals from all over the states to learn more best practices in the field of human services. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit to New Orleans, as we met new friends, made new contacts, and learned how to provide more effective services for youth.

The Executive Director continues to serve on the Youth and Family Services Network Board of Directors for over five years and represents organizations from South Carolina. The Board of Directors also facilitated a workshop lead by organization executives intended as an opportunity for leaders to share perspectives, learnings, and solutions. The intent was to encourage executives and other leaders to share strategies on building and maintaining resilient organizations that can continue to meet missions while adapting to changing times, economies, and community needs.

2012 Outstanding Safe Place
Site Involvement Award

On September 17, 2012, Youth and Family Services Network and National Safe Place presented Sea Haven, Inc with the 2012 Outstanding Safe Place Site Involvement Award for Chris’ Pizza at the 2012 National Fall Conference in New Orleans. Chris’ Pizza is owned by Chris Efaw and is located on highway 9 in Longs, SC. Sea Haven’s Executive Director, Christina Jackson and Sea Haven’s Safe Place/Outreach Coordinator, Wendy Gore accepted the award. Sea Haven also took home the 2012 Model Program Award for their Transitional Living Program located in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Chris’ Pizza became a Safe Place site for Sea Haven in July of 2009. Since that time Chris Efaw has promoted awareness to other local businesses, graciously attended Sea Haven events such as National Safe Place Week and has been in the media spotlight as a Safe Place supporter on numerous occassions. Chris’ Pizza (owner and employees) have been one of Sea Haven’s most dedicated supporters and they believe in giving back to the community and helping those youth who have wandered off the path for various reasons. Sea Haven proudly presented Chris’ Pizza owner, Chris and his employees, with this honorable award on October 15, 2012.
